About

Last updated August 26, 2026

I am Adriana Bellamy, and Fresh Start Beauty is the site I went looking for when I started wearing makeup properly at thirty-four and could not find anything written for someone in my position.

Everything I did find assumed one of two things. Either I had been doing this since I was fifteen and just needed the newest technique, or I was fifteen and had all the time in the world to practise. Nobody was writing for the person who owns one mascara, has eleven minutes before work, and does not know what a setting spray is for or whether she needs one. So I learned it slowly, wrote down what actually worked, and put it here.

Who this is for

People starting from zero, people starting again after years away, and people who own a drawer full of products and still reach for the same two. If you have ever put something back on the shelf because you did not know what it was for, this site is written for you.

How a piece gets written

I start from a question somebody actually asked me, then work out the shortest honest answer. Where a technique genuinely takes practice, the article says how long it took me rather than pretending it is easy. Where something is a matter of preference rather than a right answer, it gets called a preference. And where the honest answer is that you can skip the step entirely, I say skip it, even when that means one fewer product to write about.

What is covered

Eight areas, and they stay the same. Starting Over. The Everyday Face. Eyes and Brows. Lips and Color. Tools and Brushes. Building a Kit. Mistakes and Fixes. Confidence and Age. I would rather go properly deep on eight subjects than skate across forty.

What you will not find

No star ratings, no scores out of ten, no invented before and after photographs, and no best of the year lists. Those formats look like judgement and are mostly formatting. I also do not quote prices as fact, because they move and a stale number is a small lie.

I am not a professional makeup artist

I want to be clear about that. I am someone who learned this late, in an ordinary bathroom, with ordinary products, and who writes down what worked. That is a useful vantage point for a beginner and a limited one for anything advanced. Where a question needs a professional, I say so.

Corrections

I have been wrong here and expect to be again. When it happens the page gets fixed and carries a note saying what changed, rather than being quietly edited underneath you. Write to me at [email protected].
